I offer gentle support through careful and thorough listening about what matters to you. I draw on a whole variety of approaches I've integrated over the 20-plus years I've been working as a lactation specialist. Whether we meet at your home (where you can be comfy in your PJs) or at my office, your preferences and needs guide the choices we make together.

Meet Diane

I am the mother of two amazing sons who have shaped me into who I am today, both personally and professionally. I can’t say for sure that the close relationships I still share with both of my sons had their roots in breastfeeding. But I can say that breastfeeding set the stage for the trust, connection and joy between us that continues to grow as they get older.

Not only was breastfeeding wonderful for bonding, it turned out to be essential.

More About Diane

My approach

Confidence

I founded Nourish Lactation Consulting in 2008 with the purpose of kindly and sensitively empowering mothers who want to breastfeed or breastmilk feed their babies. My mission is to help mothers feel more confident about their choices, better understand what their babies are trying to communicate, and experience more connection to their babies.

Respect

When I was breastfeeding and looking for help, I found judgment. The message I heard was there was only one right way to do things. I felt like a failure and a bad mother. No one wants to feel this way, especially as an exhausted and vulnerable new mother. Respect, acceptance and empathy for every woman I work with is a given. I can honestly say that I have never met a mother who wasn't working hard at doing the absolute best she could.

On top of everything you might be experiencing as a new mother, it’s important that you feel respected and held through this tender time with recognition of your race, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and any lived experiences that might be impacting your life.

Support

Lactation consultations are individualized and tailored to your own needs and goals. My goal is to help build your confidence and work with your goals so that you are successful, whatever success means to you. We will work together using solutions and strategies that feel feasible to you.

I don't have an agenda to push on you, and I will support you 100% in your choices. I want you and your baby to leave consults feeling well cared for, encouraged, and supported.

What to expect

I will ask you about your lactation goals and will take a detailed history of your own health and that of your baby’s and will invite you to feed your baby so I can observe the issue(s) you are facing. All of this is to uncover the causes of your/your baby’s current issue(s).

Using this information and keeping your goals in mind, I will create a detailed care plan with suggested effective strategies you can use going forward. I'll ask you for your feedback to make sure you think this plan meets your breastfeeding goals and feels feasible to you. With your OK, I will send a report to your baby’s pediatrician and other health professionals you consult. Finally, I will encourage you to stay in touch with me until you feel good about how things are going.

Initial lactation consultations are approximately 1.5 hours. Follow-up consultations are generally 1 to 1.5 hours and allow us to assess your and your baby's progress, discuss any questions or concerns, and to adjust the care plan as needed.
